The Sandbox Children's Museum on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, has provided inclusive and safe environments for children to learn and explore since 2005. To expand its offerings for children ages 7 and older, the museum opened a new STEM Lab with 3D printers, microscopes and robotics, and wanted hands-on activities that would engage older kids and get whole families learning together.

The Sandbox added Obie, EyeClick's interactive projector, as a featured activity in the STEM Lab. Obie projects touch-responsive games onto a table, where children play by tapping, matching and racing together.

The museum has also brought Obie into its educational programming. During a recent lesson on young entrepreneurship, the team used EyeWiz, EyeClick's education platform, to create a custom marketing matching game that was a huge hit. “We love that we can go beyond the existing games and create experiences that complement what we're teaching,” says Jessica Walck, Associate Director of The Sandbox Children's Museum.

“The kids have absolutely loved the Obie's interactive, touch-responsive games!” says Jessica.

Her favorite moments happen when parents join in: “The games bring out a little friendly competition, and before you know it, the whole family is involved!”

For the museum, Obie adds another exciting dimension, especially for older visitors. “It combines technology, movement, problem-solving, and play in a way that feels completely natural to kids,” Jessica says. “It also encourages collaboration and interaction, turning screen time into an active, shared experience rather than a passive one.”

Her advice to other children's museums: “It's a wonderful way to enhance learning through play and create memorable experiences for children and families alike.”
